How to Find Kettleness
Grid Reference

Degrees

The most direct route is from the A174, follow until you reach a turn off towards Goldsborough, follow road through town and it will lead to Kettleness. You can park at the end of the road in a small parking area used to view the fantastic view of the bay.

Access can be made down the beach by a footpath that runs along the top of the cliff, Southwards and eventually leads down an old landslip. The path is often very muddy after heavy rainfall, and very slippery. Then you reach a point where there appears to be no way down as it looks too steep.

(The way down and up Kettleness Cliff) - 2004

Just over the seaward end, climb the bank and you will see a long rope leading all the way to the bottom of the cliff, it is quite steep and you will need too gradually work your way down the cliff. UK Fossils does not encourage using the rope here for your own safety. Extreme care must be made.

An alternative route is to drive to Runswick Bay (Follow the Runswick Guide directions), or Sandsend and walk from these locations, it is a very long walk and you must ensure you return before the tide turns as the sea quickly comes in hitting the two headlands either side of the bay. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION whichever method you use to access this location.
